The 2012 season was Valley FC's inaugural season. The 2012 squad, otherwise known as 'The Originals', was not a particularly successful team but it set a firm foundation, allowing for steady growth in years to come. The 2012 squad played in Capital Football's division 18, the lowest amateur division in the city. Valley finished last that season, becoming officially the worst men's football team in Wellington.

Notable Matches Edit

2-4 Away Victory Versus IBU Rampage Edit

IBU Rampage were undoubtedly the most violent and consequently disliked team in the 2012 division 18. Some of their players were known to be particularly ruthless and short-tempered. When Valley locked horns with this team for the first time, tempers flared. After initially going down 0-2, an incident occurred that ignited a fight back from Valley. The smallest player on the pitch (Danny Brabazon) gave a Rampage player a bit of a shove as they were fighting for the ball. As Brabazon was walking away, the Rampage player lost it and picked up poor Danny in a strangle hold from behind, lifting him right up off the ground. No foul or card was given, as Rampage provided the referee that day. Valley reacted strongly to this however, with goals coming quickly from Sekeris, Davies, Poole Smith and Brabazon himself, sealing a glorious victory for Valley FC. This match ignited the first real rivalry between Valley FC and another club.

2-3 Away Victory Versus Tawa Edit

The pitch this match was played on is without question the worst pitch a Valley side have ever had to endure. The final third of the pitch was literally a bog, with the water/mud coming halfway up the calves of the players. Goals this day came from Sekeris and a British lad named Steven who filled in for the Valley a few times, including a wondrous long range strike from the Mancunian. The day belonged to the defense however, as Valley never managed to leave the boggy final third of the pitch for the entire last quarter of the match. Due to the 18 yard box being partially underwater, Bertoni was unable to kick the ball from goal kicks, resulting in goal box scramble after goal box scramble and corner after corner. In a valiant and frankly spectacular defensive effort in that final quarter, Valley managed to hold on and claim the 3 points.

8-8 Away Draw Versus Upper Hutt City Slayers Edit

The team did look set to avoid the wooden spoon in the final week of competition after going up 5-1 at half time away to Upper Hutt City Slayers, however the second half proved to be a bit of a nightmare. A questionable management call to give the defenders a go up front and let the forwards do a bit of the hard work subsequently resulted in the game being drawn 8-8, ensuring Valley's bottom of the table finish.
